Media Partners

The Crossborder Journalism Campus is happy that our students can work towards publication with our media partners. This allows them a real life experience of pitching, adapting their work to the medium’s style and target group and working with editors.

Interestingly, the differences between the three countries’ journalism educations also surfaced here. The first cohort of students in the academic year 2022/23 experienced the following:

  • The University of Leipzig has a longstanding cooperation with one media partner, public service broadcaster MDR, where all students are welcome to suggest stories. Pitching is coordinated closely between the university and the broadcaster.
  • For students at the Centre de Formation des Journalistes in Paris/Lyon their lecturer reached out to Le Monde and coordinated the pitching process. However, students also reached out to other media indpendently to pitch their stories.
  • For students at the University of Gothenburg, several lectures were dedicated to pitching to editors and crafting their suggestions, but from there students were urged to reach out to media themselves, occasionally lecturers would be involved to get introductions to editors.

For the 2nd cohort in the academic year 2023/24, we will revisit and partially adapt this practice.

We are very happy that our media partners welcome this new generation of internationally minded young colleagues.
